The lions were exciting, but the magnificent animal species were the giraffes, the buffaloes and the elephants and we saw plenty of them during our days in Masai Mara. Below a selection from our encounters with these giants.
The giraffes appeared in smaller groups (towers) and could be seen very far away on the plains, as the photos below illustrates. Because of their height they really struggle drinking water and have to keep their forelegs wide and bend them and then bend down their elongated necks.
We didn’t see many buffaloes. When we later came to Ngorongoro we saw large herds of them, but here they mainly appeared one by one. I loved the buffalo in the photo below, because of the beautiful birds that were content to sit on his back. In the second photo I have blown up the birds a little bit more, but it is the same photo, just cropped differently.
And finally the elephants. They appeared in larger herds and we saw them several times every day of our visit in Masai Mara. And the landscapes on these photos are typical of the place.
