Towards Summer

View from Kvaløya along the coast

After Bermuda Jennifer and I flew up to Tromsø, as far north as you can get on mainland Norway, and we drove out to Sommarøy, the Summer Island. Well, in the beginning of March, I can tell you it was far from summer. Here are a few images on the route to Sommarøy.

We started in Tromsø, where we stayed overnight at a hotel next to the harbour. Jennifer, Eric and I have been sailing into Tromsø, but in summer, when the harbour and city looks very different. Now the yachts were covered in snow.

From Tromsø we followed the coast along several islands and crossed bridges to get to Sommarøy. Below a few of the images from the trip. It was snowing during part of the journey and we had fog during another part.

Snow was falling during part of our journey
I was thankful for the red cottages to provide a foreground for the otherwise bleak landscape
Due to the Gulf Stream the waters never froze up here
Arriving in Sommarøy, the sun soon set and I captured this just as the last sun rays painted the clouds pink
