Fjordgård

The inner part of Byfjorden looking north in the afternoon. Outside the fjord the familiar clouds or mist was hanging over the sea, while it was sunny on the island itself.

Fjordgård is a village that is approached via a tunnel – actually several tunnels. The main one takes us through a tall fell rising at the end of the fjord and when we came out we were met by this lovely landscape of the fjord and the fells lit up by the afternoon sun. The village itself is at the left (west) side of the fjord and can just be seen (or imagined) in the background.

In order to get to Fjordgård you have to drive along the west side of the fjord and through another smaller tunnel. The road looked like the image below here.

Arriving at the little settlement we found a shop where we also could get a cup of coffee and a croissant in the afternoon in the warmth before getting the courage to return to the cold and get some more images from the little village. The photo below looks back into the inner end of the fjord. Notice the difference in the mood of the sky looking into the island (below) and out towards the sea (above).

But before we entered the very first tunnel we saw this lovely landscape, sculptured by the wind creating waves of snow and the low-lying sun bringing out the three dimensionality of the snow fields.
