Susanne & Dave moved

Susanne and Dave have lived in Australia for a few years but moved back to England and Susanne’s old apartment in Fulham, when my first grandchild, Emily, was a year old. Now, when she is 3 1/2 and they have got little Elliot as well (1/2 year old now) it was time for another move.

This time they moved to a rented house in Poundbury, which is part of Dorchester in Dorset. It is not a big house, but with four bedrooms it can provide a good office for Dave’s work and a garden, where the children can play without Mum and Dad being worried.

Poundbury is a new concept initiated by the Prince of Wales on Duchy land. The architecture is unashamedly traditional and uses a variety of Dorset material like stone, slate and render. It is a high-density urban quarter, where people can both live, work, shop and play.

But instead of using the car, the idea is that you walk in Poundbury, which Susanne and Dave showed Eric, Mikee and me, when we visited less than a week after they have moved in. They have two minutes to the shop and three minutes to a café and the pub (which is a necessity in every English village).

Nearby is an attractive square that become a farmer’s market on every second Saturday. And a few minutes further away are play gardens and more restaurants, in one of which we had a great lunch.
