We visited the Philippines during a week in April 2013. We didn’t have time to go back to the province from which Jennifer and Mikee herald, but we spent a few days in Manila with our schools and scholars from the squatter areas. After that we travelled to Boracay, a small island just north of Iloilo in the region of Visayas.
The poverty and poor hygiene in the slum areas where are scholars and students live was a sharp contrast to the wealth of a tourist resort island like Boracay, especially as we stayed at the upmarket resort of Shangri-La, with a nice bungalow and our own swimming pool.
My images are from one of the squatter areas just outside Manila and in the Philippines you see Eric and Mikee in the water and Mikee and me paragliding, jet-skiing and sailing on a trimaran. Mikee has always been adventurous and here she is 10 years old. Eric is 4 years old and was a little bit more cautious but happy in the water, both the pools and the sea.
