Waterfalls and gorges

Vintgar Gorge

There isn’t always sunshine on our photo expeditions. In Slovenia Jennifer and I had a couple of overcast days as well and we used to opportunity to look at waterfalls and gorges, which are best photographed anyway without any strong sunlight, which makes the images too contrasty. One morning we went to a tall waterfall, Pericnik Waterfall and the other we hiked along a narrow gorge following the river as it meandered through the gorge.

The waterfall (on the left image above) doesn’t look large from a distance, but coming closer (the image below) and seeing the people walking along the path going behind the waterfall, you realise how big it is. When photographing the image next to the fall, I had to clean my lens all the time from water droplets.

Pericnik Waterfall. Notice the people along the path at the top right of the image.

The remaining images are from Vintgar Gorge, which we followed a few kilometres. Nearly all along our walk the gorge was so narrow that we had to walk on a separately built walkway beside or over the river.

Further downstream the gorge widened and instead a layer of mist covered the river and accentuated the autumn colours on the surrounding trees
